5 Minds for the Future

5 Minds for the Future, Howard Gardner, The United State of America, Harvard Business School publishing, 60 Harvard Way, Boston, Massachusetts 02163.

The 5 Minds connection different depth of consciousness. Gardner stated that the 5 minds are very important for the survival of main kind. In order for people to get alone they must have certain personality. The world is becoming diverse, and you have to be able to respect people that culture is different from you. Gardner was a critic of unrestricted free speech. He observes people when they were not aware of him.

Intelligences come from creating minds and disciplined in the areas of work you do. Thus whether disciplined or creative, a poet depend on linguistic intelligence, an architect on spatial intelligence, a therapist on interpersonal intelligence (pg.14 5 Minds).

Globalization, science and technology, is cost the world a lot of money. There is nothing we can do with global warming but we can communicate with other countries and be respectful with ethical standards to all parties. Gardner believe you must have an understanding of art, literature and philosophy to understand the world we live in, also to be able to talk to the new generations (while avoiding “inside baseball” curricula that speak only to those with professional stake in the field” pg14. The future belongs to individuals that make an active, lifelong commitment to learn continual.

Disciplined is the first mind set, where you learn skills of planning, executing, critiquing, and teaching writing. In order to mastery a discipline you must have the knowledge of the human mind or human behavior .Gardner used control groups to analyze the data he receives. For fifteen years he research leadership and ethic across the professions at the university. Scientific studies, state discipline is a crafts, because you master knowledge because it is continually changing.

Synthesizing is putting the information together, and making sense of it. A law firm must consider the job, and then assign jobs basic on their skills; these people know the job and are an expert in this area. Gardner talks about the story of Adam and Eden and how knowledge was pass down through generation orally .The Bible represents knowledge toward religious and moral messages. Societies believe that we are self-conscious about the knowledge of literacy from the next generation. The Western secular look at Pre-Socratic philosopher’s knowledge to be the first to sought order as the world was understood at that time. Aristotle for two millennia was known as the philosopher.

The ability to put vital information together, and trace similar lineages in major cultural traditions. Nobel Prize- winning physicist Murray Gell-Mann said the mind in the twenty-first century will be synthesized. Gardner synthesizing massive amount of data, intelligence and challenge the strategic big picture. Domain-species individual cognition is remarkably: as a species we learn skills in contexts and resist broader application and wider generalization. When synthesizing is cultivated it’s premature, misguided, or fundamentally wrong. The minds must grapple with forces that are against its proper realization.

Here are the kinds of synthesis; Narratives, taxonomies, complex concepts, rules and aphorisms, powerful metaphor, images, and themes. The synthesis is the first step to turning a business around. It is important to have a strategy to executive that has a solid based.

The creating minds in the past was not sought after nor rewarded. John Seely Brown said “I create’, therefore I am. He said if you fully endorse creativity and hope it will reveal the secret of its attainment. Creativity emergent from the interaction of three autonomous elements: individual, domain, social field.

Gardner interviewed people in the field of psychology and people of whom wrote numerous papers on the functionality of the mind. His purpose of writing this book was to show how all people are not on the same accord, I believe he explained his purpose very well because I can see it in society today. Parents are a child’s first role model and it has an effect on their children thinking as well as their culture.

My experience that is displayed from this book is as a teacher and working with children that come from low income families, children with special needs, and single parent homes they all suffer from a different set of mind. For example a child from a single parent home may lack discipline due to their parents working and never really seeing them and therefore they are often times left to learn to take care of themselves and siblings at an early age.

Personal Story

My personal story is I feel that education is very important. I worked a full time job and went to school at night to better my life. The experience that I received while attending school has made me aware of how important education is, and you are never too old to get an education. Now it all has paid off and I am a Pre-School teacher and is working on getting my Masters in Early and Elementary Education.

5 Available Resources for Pre-K Math

Some of the resources that I use for my classroom are fundamental CD’s which are used for phonics, speech, alphabets and rhyming. Building blocks are used to help them learn the order of the alphabets as well as counting, and build different shapes. The use of play doe is essential to help build fine motor skills such as squeezing, rolling, and patting. Crayons are used to draw pictures, color them and help to identify their colors. Picture books are used to help the students recognize shapes, words, and parts of the book.

My Question/Answer

Why would a mother kill her child?
I feel there is really no answer to it but I can speculate. Some people may say that a mother may kill her child because they are selfish and others are cowards. To me it all comes from pure ignorance and mental disturbance. Case and point: the Casey Anthony trial that has been going on for three years is the perfect example. To me it seems that she suffers from a psychotic state of mind where everything has to be all about her. When the child was born maybe she felt that all the attention she was once receiving was now being directed towards the child she snapped mentally.

Current News Event

http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/caylee-anthony/
This case started June 16, 2008. On June 16th Caylee Anthony became missing. The mother said she was with the babysitter, and police talked to the nanny and said that the lady had never seen Caylee or Casey because she didn’t know them. Then she said that the little girl had drowned and the grandfather had found the child in the pool and then carried the little girl in his arms. The grandfather stated that it was lie. The baby body was found in December of 2008 in a wooded area about two miles from her home in a plastic bag with tape over her mouth. Since the finding of the child all fingers point to the child mother Casey and the case is ongoing now.

Mistake I Made/ What I Learned from It

A mistake I made starting my new job, was thinking that the person I saw as my mentor who offered to help me in what I did not know pertaining to my new job wouldn’t turn their back on me was an understatement. I saw her as my mentor because she had been at this job for about ten years. I was then given her job due to me having a degree; she did not like this because she wanted to be leader in the classroom. She would tell co-workers that we were co. teachers. Because I stayed in my room I did not know of the things she was telling her friends. She wanted to do the attendance, lesson plan, and any other paper she could put her name on as head teacher. There were times when she tried to control what went on in the classroom. I then had to pull her to the side and let her know that we are to work as a team and not against each other because it is all about the children. The thing I learned from this was that you can’t trust people on face value. Also, I learned no matter how nice you are people will try to use you to their advantage; you must stand up for what is right no matter what the situation.

What I Spend My Money On

The way I spend my money has become very intriguing to me. First, I pay my bills at my home water, lights, ECT. Then, I do something special for me such as a pedicure, go out to eat, take a bubble bath and listen to music alone. I also spend my money on high price gas to get back and forth from work and school as well as pay my tuition. I spend my money on my two grandchildren every two weeks and then send them home while their father complains about my spending too much money on them. My response to him is, “I spend MY money!” I then spend my money on a family vacation to Orlando. In the end I realize that I spend my money which is really not mines because I’m basically the overseer.

A Community I Love

I live in a small community named Myrtlewood, Al. In the Myrtlewood community you can feel the love in this small area. We all have grown up and have gone to school with someone’s sister or brother. When the April 27th tornado came through and destroyed an area two miles from my home, as a community we pulled up our sleeves and did what was necessary to make this family that lost their home and family member feel comfortable. Members in the community that had spare rooms assisted the family in their time of need. We found a house for the family because they wanted to be together due to my neighbor losing her father. She said many times, “I am homeless.” I told her, “Homeless people don’t have me and the love of the community.” I expressed to her that I know how she feel and to her it may seem like its midnight in her life but, all she has to do is just put God first and pray. Even though, we don’t understand just pray and God will provide. I talked to her at church Sunday and she told me that they will be building a new and better home in July of this year. All I could say to her was, “God is good all the time.”

I chose to do the Theory of Multiple Intelligences because it opens up a new way of seeing exactly how each every person thinks. In saying this, it shows that even though each person has a brain or can be identified as intelligent there are different cultures and different intelligences. This also shows that a third of the mind is directed toward creativity. Unthinking, practice, and repetition are said to be the area where a lot of learning takes place.
Questions
1. What is your I.Q.?
2. Who is Howard Gardner?
3. What does I.Q. really mean when it comes to the intelligence of the mind?
4. What future do you get from having a disciplined mind?
5. What is a synthesized mind?

Use of Computer Technology to help students with special needs.

Ted S. Hasselbring, Candyce H. Williams Glaser Vol. 10. No. 2-

Fall/winter 2000. This article give you the roles computer

Technology play in education children with special needs in a classroom.

Children of this generation are called the digital age. Because of the influx

new computer-based technologies that links you to the worldwide culture.

Government officials state that it is very important to have technology in

public school. Many workplaces are using computer on the job. Children

have different kinds of disability. There are one of six students across the

United State do not have traditional education because they are disable.

Some of the disabilities are speech, language impairments to mental

retardation and half having a specific learning disability due to a

psychological disorder. Half the students with problems are males. Most are

in Middle and elementary schools. Some have emotional, social, or

behavioral and academic problem. The federal government mandates that

children with special needs must have a program to help these needs. The

education need is a call least restrictive environment. These children must

be in a regular classroom. Another approach is called full inclusion. The

technological in the classroom help the special need for children to keep up

in class. It help the teacher to be able to communicate better with her students. Research said there are benefits to using computer in

the classroom for special needs of children. Students get skills

and content knowledge from the computer. Teacher use internet,

communication technologies, CD-Rome reference material, and

Multimedia presentation tool site help students with special needs.

The teacher used word processing software to help student with mild

learning problems. Here are some software that help with special

needs students, word prediction software, communication

technologies, Hyperlinks and multimedia environment. There are

technologies for hearing impairment example: video caption and captioned

educational programs. Devices to help students with hearing problems,

hearing aide, frequency modulated audio loops. There are technologies

for students with visual problem are screen reader and Braille note taker

Etc. I enjoyed this article. It gave you information about the computer in the

Do students Respect Intellectual property? Copyright 2008

Jennifer attended a conference on copyright. She though all the

material used in school was “fair to use”. After the conference she

realize she had violated the rights of the artist. Ms. Jennifer did some

research on property rights laws for school in Germany. Her students in

the 9th grade did a project about copyrighted material was,” get

permission first“. (International Society For Technology in Education).

Ms. Jennifer introduce issues to her students about the limited knowledge

she know about copyright laws. There are misuse of intellectual property

that compared it to stealing physical objects. The example society give is

a child goes into a store and steal a candy bar. There was no legal action

taking because the child didn’t know what he was doing. Once the police

talked to the child and the child said he was sorry. The law drop the

charges. Jennifer said this is the mind set of people and students. If I get

caught I will be ignore by the law. After the project was done the students

understood the important of getting permission for use of pictures, videos,

and music that they use in public domain. The next year Ms. Janesko had

training on intellectual property rights for all of the teachers. The goals was

to make sure the teacher could teach the students about literacy so the students can make responsible decisions on the use of media

in the classroom projects. The curriculum used was to discuss

identified different types of licenses, ownership issues, and

practiced reviewing projects. The teachers and the students had

more respect for the law. I enjoyed reading this article it was a learning

project for me.

Summary

This article gave you several views on the misuse of intellectual property

right laws used by the schools. Many teachers do not have the training

to help students know the ethic right o the author, video, and any person

material you use that is not yours. You must ask for permission to use

other people work. You can go to jail for not getting permission. Young

people must realize this is a serious problem. This is why Jennifer and the

other wanted you to know the negative consequences for taking credit when

you use someone else work. Children learn through model from teacher and

parents. In this article Jennifer and Tammy gave training on Intellectual

Property Right Laws. These lady started an curriculum to help the students

understand ownership issues, identified different types of licenses, and

practiced reviewing terms of the use agreements. After completing the

project student took copyright issues very serious. This class taught them
to make responsible decisions on legal matter concern the public

domain.

My though Question

If teacher do not clearly understand about copyright issues. How

can they teach the students.
